Roy Gene Chamblee

Funeral services for Roy Gene Chamblee, 76, of Huntington will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Dr. Darryl Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Shofner Cemetery.

Mr. Chamblee was born June 2, 1947 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Louise (Herrington) and Berlon Chamblee, and died Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in a local hospital.

Mr. Chamblee was a lifetime resident of Huntington. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971. He retired as an electrician from the paper mill in Lufkin (Abitibi when he retired) following 35 years of employment. He was active in coaching in the Huntington Youth Baseball and Basketball Associations. Mr. Chamblee was a member of Huntington First Baptist Church. He started East Texas Ranch in 1975. He raised registered Brahman cattle and was a member of the American Brahman Breeders Association.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Oretha (Wise) Chamblee of Huntington; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Chamblee of Huntington, Craig and Martha Chamblee of Laredo, and Richard and Allison Chamblee of Lufkin; grandsons, Colbey Chamblee and Gerado Guerra; granddaughters, Ayden Chamblee, Reese Chamblee, Harper Chamblee, Charlotte Chamblee, Alissandra Guerra, Madison Kinney, and McKenzie Summers; six great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Chamblee of Huntington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Peggy Chamblee Yeates; and daughter-in-law, Tracy Black Chamblee.

Pallbearers will be Delton Smith, Shawn Smith, Bradley Stringer, Joe Wilroy, Jason Whittemore, and Shane Tatum.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.
