Roberta "Bert" Lee Murray

Funeral services for Roberta “Bert” Lee Murray, 94, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Harold Hancock and Tim Beamon officiating. Interment will follow in the Largent Cemetery.

Mrs. Murray was born May 15, 1929 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Blanche Elizabeth (West) and Robert Edward Lee, Sr., and died Sunday, December 31, 2023 in a local hospice facility.

Mrs. Murray was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She adored her children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and they were the light of her life. She was affectionately referred to as “Mommee”, “Aunt Bert”, and “Bert” by all her “bonus loved ones” who came to love her. Roberta was a faithful and devoted servant of our Lord – ministering alongside her husband for 63 years as he traveled and delivered God’s Word to many. She became a nurse later in life, following her passion for always wanting to take care of others. She was a remarkable woman of faith and will be missed dearly.

Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Murray Martin of Lufkin; son, Randy Murray of Lufkin; grandchildren, Jennifer Murray, Todd Martin and wife Brooke, Grant Martin and wife Amanda, Jamie Spyker, Amber Duren and husband Barett, Jason Murray and wife Yesica; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Peyton, Hunter, Karter, Caleb, Owen, Jayden, Sawyer, Abby, Hannah, James, Jaxon, Ada, Wyatt, Rebekah, Lauren, Levi; nephew, Gary Murray and wife Sandra; nieces, Sharon Derrington, Vicki Calvert; and a number of great-nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years in 2010, Oliver Murray; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Tack Nail; and brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Val Lee.

Pallbearers will be Taylor Miller, Hunter Miller, Peyton Martin, Caleb Martin, Karter Duren, Owen Duren, Sawyer Duren, and Jayden Cronk.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jaxon Murray, Wyatt Murray, James Spyker, and Levi Spyker.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon prior to the service.
