Funeral services for Robert Brooks Walker, 77, of Huntington will be held Sunday, January 4, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Pastor Taylor McBride and Brother Dana Walker officiating. Graveside services with military honors, and under the auspices of the Homer Masonic Lodge #254 A.F. & A.M., will follow in Ben F. Walker Cemetery.
Mr. Walker was born June 30, 1948 in Huntington, Texas to the late Elsie (Carrell) and Benjamin C. Walker, and died Saturday, December 27, 2025 in a facility in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Robert was a lifelong resident of Huntington and spent his entire career working for the City of Huntington. He started at the bottom, worked his way up the ladder, and retired as the City Administrator after many years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Homer Masonic Lodge #254 A.F. & A.M. and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served in Germany during Vietnam, worked in the motor pool, achieved the status of sharpshooter, and when he was discharged his rank was a Specialist 4. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on vehicles and heavy equipment. He loved spending time on the farm and raising his cattle. He cherished his family dearly, but once the grandkids and great-grandkids came along, they were his true pride and joy. Robert was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Sherrell Walker of Huntington; daughter, Shelly McBride and husband Albert of Reklaw; son, Danny Plemons of Lufkin; grandsons, Taylor McBride and wife Hannah, Jeremy McBride and wife Karen, Bryant Plemons; six great-grandchildren; brother, Carl Ray Walker and wife Chloe; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kelvin Plemons; sisters, Ivadell Harris, Audri Pride; and brother, Bernice Walker.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Pride, Richard Pride, Donny Harris, Dana Walker, Bryant Plemons, and Braiden Plemons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Pride, Jeremy McBride, and Albert McBride.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.
