Funeral services for Robert Lanny Parish, 82, of Lufkin, will be held at the Timberland Drive Church of Christ on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. with Jim McDonald, Tim Beamon, and Ty Thornton officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery in Bald Hill with Reagan McClenny, Harold Hancock, and Jeff Harkness officiating.
Lanny was born December 16, 1941 to the late Robert Floyd "R.F." and Vera "Trixie" Parish, and died Friday, July 26, 2024 at his home in Beulah, with his loving wife Paula and daughter Lana and family by his side.
Lanny resided in Beulah most of his life. He grew up in White Oak Texas, where he was a member of the baseball team and as a senior they won the State Baseball Title. Lanny married the love of his life, Paula Yates Parish on May 25, 1963. This past May 2024, they celebrated 61 years of marriage. Lanny received his BBA from Stephen F. Austin State University in August 1969 as a member of Delta Sigma Pi. Lanny was a member of Timberland Drive Church of Christ. It didn’t matter the time of day or night, Lanny was always available to study the Bible. Lanny was a faithful servant of the Lord, preaching at many Church of Christ congregations all around East Texas, including Crockett, Alto, Wells, Nacogdoches, Rocky Hill, Herty, Lufkin, Bay City, and ending in Zavalla. Lanny served the City of Diboll for many years, ending his career as City Manager. He was very involved in the community, serving on numerous boards and committees. He was recognized by the head of NASA, Texas Forest Service, and the Department of Homeland Security for his work in the recovery of the Columbia shuttle.
Welcoming him Home is his beloved son, Robert Bryan Parish. Lanny is also preceded in death by his twin sister, Sandra Miller; parents; and brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Bonnie Parish.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 61 years, Paula Yates Parish; daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Mark Hines; granddaughters and spouses, Sara and Todd Baker, Ashley and R.L. Lyles; great-granddaughters, Alise and Grace Richard, Anslee and Laney Lyles, all of Lufkin; niece, Pam Parish of Beaumont; nephews, Mike Parish of Bryan and Donald Parish of Lufkin; niece, Loraine Miller and family; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pat and Jan Downing and family of Gilmer; and many other family members; longtime friends, Joe Lee Smith of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Linda and Ernie Teske of Longview, Larry and Janice Nutt of Longview, and Nell Mangus of Lufkin.
The family would like to thank Dr. Richard E. Roby, Jr. for the excellent care and friendship he shared with Lanny over the years; a special thank you to Dr. Roby’s assistants, Shannon and Courtney, for their kindness and compassion shown to Lanny. The family would also like to express their appreciation to all the staff of Affinity Hospice for their excellent care of Lanny: Nurse LaKeithia, Tyisha Tanner and especially Jenny Horton for her unwavering love and support, and Kim Thomas, Caregiver, for staying by his side and supporting the family. The family would also like to thank all members of Timberland Drive Church of Christ, and friends and family members, for their unconditional love, support, prayers, food, and visits they so graciously gave.
Pallbearers are Mark Hines, R.L. Lyles, Todd Baker, Mike Parish, Jerry Franklin, Todd Martin, and Tom Short.
Honorary pallbearers are Jim Burrous, Scott Grimes, Ronnie Hines, Pat Downing, Mike Penn, Larry Davis, Rick Bockmiller, Rick Frazier, and the men of Timberland Drive Church of Christ.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Monday afternoon prior to the service.
