Robert Lane Baccus

October 11, 1942 — March 17, 2024

Robert Lane Baccus, 81, of Diboll was born October 11, 1942 in Orange, Texas to the late Euell D. and Virginia (Kraft) Baccus, and died Sunday, March 17, 2024 in Lufkin.

Mr. Baccus grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana where he enjoyed restoring hot rods, and fishing and duck hunting in the marshes of southern Louisiana. He served in the Louisiana National Guard, and later graduated from McNeese State University with a degree in Forestry. He went on to work as a Mud Engineer for MagCoBar Drilling Fluids and as a District Forester with Temple-Inland from Kirbyville and Lufkin, Texas.

He was an avid sailor, having participated in the Galveston to Vera Cruz, Mexico Regatta. Following retirement from Forestry, he became a Master WoodTurner, collecting tropical and exotic woods for bowls and urns.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Vicky Baccus;  daughter, Leslie C. Schnedler and husband Steven of San Antonio; sister, Diane Thompson of Houston; sister-in-law, Cecile Baccus of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ben Baccus; brother-in-law, Virgil Thompson, and nephew, Craig Baccus.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 412 S. 3rd Street, Lufkin, Texas 75901.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the future.
