Robert Alan Austin, Sr.

Robert Alan Austin, Sr. passed away on March 7, 2026, at the age of 73 in Conroe, Texas, surrounded by his children. Robert, also lovingly known as Bob to friends, was born August 31, 1952 in Amityville, New York. He served in the United States Air Force for over 20 years and retired as a Master Sergeant.

Robert was the fourth of the ten children of Mary Ann and James W. Austin. The family moved from New York to Florida while Robert was a child and he considered Florida his childhood home. Living in Florida brought him his love of water sports. He waterskied, boated, fished, and dove. Those loves were passed onto many of his kids.

As an adult, Robert learned to love the game of golf. It became a lifelong passion of his, which he passed onto his sons. He played many courses across the country. Golf trips with his family and friends became a favorite way to try new courses.

Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, his mother and father, and his sister, Susan. He is survived by his five children and their spouses, son, Robert Austin, Jr. and wife Karla, son, Randy Austin and wife Stefanie, daughter, Lea Ann Bechtol and husband Brian, daughter, Jennifer Luna and husband Mathew, and son, Richard Austin. He is also survived by his fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family is hosting a memorial service for Robert Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Friends of Ellen Trout Zoo, 402 Zoo Circle, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
