Funeral services for Robbie Mettlen Sterling, 78, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Nathan Pannell officiating. Interment will follow in the Narrow Way Cemetery.
Mrs. Sterling was born June 16, 1941 in the Center Point Community of Trinity County, Texas to the late Ola Dee (Alexander) and William Franklin Brock, and died Sunday, June 16, 2019 in a local hospice facility.
Mrs. Sterling resided in Lufkin most of her life. She was a cook at Texas Foundries for more than 23 years, then retired from Lufkin ISD Food Service following 25 more years as a cook. She loved baking cakes and pies and prided herself on her homemade pie crusts. Ms. Sterling was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd Sterling of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Rodney Bivens of Hudson; son, Ricky Mettlen of Hudson; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Roland Brock of Hudson; sisters and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Jesse Lee and Marie Matchett, all of Lufkin; sister-in-law, Betsy Brock of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Jerry Mettlen; son, David Mettlen; brothers, Rev. James Brock and Chicken Brock; and sister, Helen Luce.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
