Memorial services for Richard G. Schultz of Lufkin will be held Monday, August 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Keltys First Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Taylor officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
On the evening of August 8, 2021, Richard passed away in Lufkin, Texas, as a result of a heart attack. His wife, Laurie, was with him at the time. Richard was 63 years old.
Richard Schultz was born in Billings, Montana, on August 4, 1958. He was the third son born to Dorothy (Reintsma) and Harold Schultz. A sister, Charlotte, completed the family a few years later.
Richard was educated in the Billings Public Schools and graduated from Billings Senior High in 1977. He married Laurie Footer in March of 1979 in Billings, Montana. Richard and Laurie had 3 sons—Ben (1983), Luke (1985) and Caleb (1988). Richard worked as a welder and fabricator for the Boilermakers Union. He had “the knack” for creating or repairing almost anything and especially enjoyed his craft of metal fabrication. The family attended churches in the Billings area. Richard loved cars, especially Camaros. He was very mechanical and frequently could be found tinkering on cars. He loved playing cards and had a quick wit and great sense of humor. Everyone in his life considered him a source of stability and someone who was always there when they needed help. Richard retired in 2017. In 2018, Richard and Laurie sold their home in Billings and moved to Lufkin, Texas, to be near two of their sons, a daughter-in-law and baby twin granddaughters. They faithfully attended Keltys First Baptist Church in Lufkin.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Laurie (Footer) Schultz of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Crystine Schultz of San Tan Valley, Arizona; son and daughter-in-law, Luke and Stephanie Schultz of Pollok, Texas; and son and fiancé, Caleb Schultz and Angela Rodriguez of Tomball, Texas; grandchildren, K’Den Schultz, Katelyn Schultz and Kylie Schultz; mother, Dorothy Roe; sister, Charlotte Swenson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Harold Schultz; and brothers, Billy Schultz and Bobby Schultz.
