Richard Ferdinand "Dick" Semlinger

Services for Richard Ferdinand “Dick” Semlinger, 87, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Rev. Dr. Jerome Brimmage officiating.

Mr. Semlinger was born June 8, 1931 in San Antonio, Texas to the late Ora Rose (Schertz) and John Anthony Semlinger, and passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 22, 2018 in Lufkin.

Mr. Semlinger had resided in Lufkin for over 45 years. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1952 and was Commander of the “B” Company Infantry in the Corps of Cadets. Mr. Semlinger served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Mobil Oil after 33 years of service. He was a golf instructor at Angelina College and loved to marshal on the golf course. Mr. Semlinger was a member of Lufkin First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Luanna Semlinger of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law, Stacee and Jim Holton of Lufkin; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Dr. Billy Caplan of Houston; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, David and Bobbie Semlinger of San Angelo; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 45 years, Judy Semlinger; and mother of Scott and Stacee, LaVerne Semlinger.
