Richard "Dickie" Bennett

November 17, 1941 — October 23, 2017

Funeral services for Richard “Dickie” Elmer Bennett, 75, of Trinity County, Texas will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Greg Denman officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Mr. Bennett was born November 17, 1941 in Houston, Texas to R. O. “Skipper” and Mabel (Hollis) Bennett, and died Monday, October 23, 2017 at his home.

Richard was an only child but grew up surrounded by many loving cousins. He graduated from Centerville ISD in Groveton, Texas and attended banking schools at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Houston. Richard married the love of his life, Rebecca (Turner) Bennett on November 21, 1964. Together they raised and loved beyond measure three beautiful children and five grandchildren. He resided in Trinity County, most of his life. Richard had a 40 year career in banking with many of those years in Crockett, Texas. He served as Area Chairman of the East Texas Chamber of Commerce and loved going out into the community meeting people and making friends. In the early 1970’s, Richard honorably served as a police officer with the Lufkin Police Department where he met his lifelong friends, Hershel and Karen Lee, Howard and Patty Byrd, Jimmy and Linda Robinson and Greg and Terri Denman. From these friendships they raised children, traveled and supported each other. They called their group “The We, Us and They club”. Richard also enjoyed hunting, saltwater fishing, John Wayne movies and was quite knowledgeable about world history. All he wanted in life was to be surrounded by his family and friends, travel and be given “a smile and a kind word”.

Survivors include his loving wife, Rebecca; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and George Rose of San Antonio; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Lori Bennett of Lufkin and Christopher Bennett and Ellie Morgan of Austin; grandchildren: Eric and Emily Rose, Abby and Wesley Bennett and Korbin Burke; many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Mike Hollis, Monty Hollis, Binkey Foster, George Rose, Brad Turner and Jeff Griffin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Hollis, Jr, Jimmy Robinson, Howard Byrd, Greg Denman, and Hershel Lee.
