Raymond H. Trantham

Memorial services with military honors for Raymond H. Trantham, 87, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mark A. Newton officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Trantham was born November 10, 1931 in Jacksonville, Texas to the late Valeria (Vought) and Harvey Trantham, and died Wednesday, January 2, 2019 in a local hospital.

Mr. Trantham served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, ultimately attaining the rank of S/SGT. He was a member of the 1 ^st Tank Battalion, 1 ^st Marine Division. Later he became an Aircraft Inspector at McDonnell Douglas and retired after 30 years of service. A major turning point in his life was at age 13, when he and his siblings were placed in Buckner Orphanage. He was resilient and adapted well, becoming very accomplished in track and field while he was there until the age of 18. Those years gave him the drive and determination to succeed in life.

Mr. Trantham was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. It was very important to him that he take care of his family and give them the best life possible. He enjoyed staying in shape by playing golf and racquetball. And being a sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching football. Mr. Trantham was a member of First Baptist Church Lufkin.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margaret Trantham of Lufkin; son, Mark Trantham and wife Susan of Lufkin; grandson, Scott Trantham of Lufkin; and sister, Edith Arnold of Lufkin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Doyle Trantham; and sister, Mary Lou Vidovich.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Arnold, Ronnie Arnold, and W.L. Smith.
