Visitation for Purificacion Santos Ramos, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel. Rosary will be recited at 5:15 p.m. with Father Hanks officiating. A reception will follow in the Carroway Family Reception Room.
Mrs. Purificacion Santos Ramos was called home by her Creator on April 19, 2018. She died peacefully at Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was born on May 8, 1923 in Banna, Ilocos Norte, Philippines to Santiago Santos Sr. and Demetria Basug.
She was a lifelong educator having obtained a degree in Elementary Education and later a Master of Arts degree. After the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, she and her late husband, Epafrodito T. Ramos, Sr., who is also a teacher, were sent by the Philippine government to a remote village of Capulaan in Villasis, Pangasinan, Philippines, where they founded the elementary school which still stands today. She was primarily a first-grade teacher, but after getting her Masters’ degree, was promoted as principal in Lomboy Elementary School until her retirement in 1979. As an educator, she knew the importance of a good education. She made sure that all her children got a good education, which resulted in two medical doctors , three engineers, and a chemist, an accomplishment she was always proud of.
She was well-liked by her peers and often looked up to by the younger teachers as someone to emulate. She was awarded Teacher-of-the-Year in 1977. She and her husband migrated to Los Angeles, CA in 1984 and lived there until she moved to Lufkin, Texas in 2012 following the death of her husband to be near family.
She was an avid cook and loved to share them with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Romeo Ramos, Sr. and wife Evelyn of Baguio Philippines, Norma Ramos-Aguilar and husband Virgil of La Mirada, CA, Ruben Ramos, Sr. and wife Yolanda, Rolly Ramos, Sr. and wife Lani, and daughter-in-law Fema, all of Lufkin, Texas, Epafrodito Ramos, Jr. and wife Fe of Nacogdoches, Texas; grandchildren, Walter, Romeo Jr. (Ann), Cherry Mae (Franco), Claudine (David), Virgil John, Robert (Fe), Yvette (Robert), Ruben Jr.(Lani), Michael (Bevelyn), Rolly Jr.(Riza), Julius (Kristian), John, Paul, Cheryl (Inho), Charrie (Fernan), BethaFe (David),and Christelle (Tyler) and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Santiago Santos, Jr. of San Jose, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Epafrodito, Sr.; youngest son, Rene; parents; sister, Eden; and brothers, Nestor and Alejandro.
Honorary pallbearers are Mario Estrella, Bimbo Acosta, Arlan Bergonia, Boyet Belista, Tristan Manto, Ed Tanhui all of Nacogdoches, and Leo Dominguez of Lufkin.
She will be buried in her native Philippines.
