Funeral services for Preston “Hollywood” Christie, 85, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Pastor Jim Housley officiating. Interment will follow the services.
Mr. Christie was born May 3, 1932 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Gracie Elma (Dunn) and Roy McCoy Christie, and died Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at his residence.
Mr. Christie was a lifetime resident of Angelina County. He retired from the Oilfield Division of Lufkin Industries following 42 years of service as a welder. Mr. Christie was faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ and his church. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and taught the Jr. Department Sunday school class for many years. He loved the Lord and His Word and was known to quote scripture, even to his caregivers in his last days. In his later years Mr. Christie was an avid Astros fan and especially enjoyed watching them win the World Series. He was also a Dallas Cowboys fan.
Survivors include his wife, Doris (Freeman) Christie of Lufkin; daughters, Kelli Christie and Karen Lowery and husband Phillip, all of Allen; sons, Clayton Christie of Lufkin and Keith Christie and wife Jennifer of Sedro-Woolley, Washington; granddaughters, Cecile Mahoney and husband Thomas of McKinney and Hailey Armstrong of Allen; grandsons, MSgt. USAF Phillip Joseph Lowery IV and wife Brandy of San Antonio, Tyler Griggs and wife Susanna of Bismarck, North Dakota, David Lowery and Zack Cooney, both of Allen; four great-grandchildren; brother, Audie Ray Christie and wife Faye of Hudson; sister, Imogene Reed of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Verbal Christie; and sister, Laverne Anderson.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon prior to the services.
