Peggy Rose Burt, age 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, June 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Peggy was born May 9, 1936, in Crossett, Arkansas, to Mary Ellen (Jones) Bays and James Leslie Bays, Sr. She was raised with the values of faith and kindness which defined the way she lived her life and touched the lives of others.
In 1969, Peggy and her family moved to Diboll, Texas, where she became an active and beloved member of the community. She owned and operated an insurance agency and dedicated herself to serving others both professionally and personally. Peggy was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Diboll, where she participated in the Faith Sunday School Class and was also a member of the Diboll Garden Club.
Above all else, Peggy was a devoted follower of Christ. Her unwavering faith in God and steadfast belief in His promises carried her through every season of life. For the last nine years, she courageously battled cancer with remarkable grace, positivity, and determination. She continually amazed her doctors with her strength and outlook. Peggy often shared the words, "A happy heart is the best medicine" and "A joyful mind is healing", drawing inspiration from Proverbs 17:22.
Peggy truly loved life. Her warm smile, infectious laugh, and kind heart reflected the genuine compassion she had for others. She never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She cherished her friendships and maintained lifelong connections with the many people whose lives she touched.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her greatest devotion was to her family, and her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. In the final years of her life, she especially treasured the time spent with her great-grandchildren, creating precious memories filled with laughter and unconditional love. While Peggy will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, love, and compassion will continue to inspire and comfort all whose lives she touched.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ellen (Jones) Bays and James Leslie Bays, Sr.; her husband, Felton Gordon Burt; her son, David Alan Burt; her sister, Joyce Sullins; and her brother, James "Jim" Leslie Bays, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Jenan Burt Rasco (John Petty); her son, Randy Gordon Burt (Maria); her grandchildren, Joel Rasco (Nicole), John Rasco, Melissa Burt, Paul Burt, and Christian Burt; and her great-grandchildren, Gabriel Burt and Emma Rasco.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church Diboll (208 Devereaux Street, Diboll, Texas 75941) Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Ben Merritt officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Joel Rasco, John Rasco, Paul Burt, Christian Burt, Caleb Crawford, and Noah Crawford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church in Diboll in loving memory of Peggy Burt.
