Patricia “Pat” Berry was born April 14, 1936 in Huntington, Texas, the daughter of the late Myrl (Goode) Coburn Coker and Floyce Coburn. She was peacefully carried into heaven on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
A private family service will be held in May.
Pat was a lifelong resident of Angelina County until May 2025 when she moved to Marble Falls to be closer to family. After graduation from Huntington High School, Pat attended Lillie Jolly School of Nursing. She returned to Lufkin to work for Memorial Hospital. Through the years, she worked for many doctors throughout the Lufkin community and spent the last 16 years of her career as a school nurse for Lufkin ISD.
In 1958, she married Vernon Berry and together raised three daughters. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a lifelong member of Lufkin Service League and served as its president in 1974-75 and a member of First Baptist Church.
In retirement, she loved traveling with her daughters, doting on her granddaughters, spending time with her second love Al Pal, gardening, working puzzles, playing Bridge with friends, and getting together with her “Birthday Club”. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed sharing her love by preparing delicious meals for others. Pat was a willing giver of herself, her energy, and her resources to those she loved. She always put the needs of those around her before her own. She dearly loved her family, friends, and church and lived her life as an example to others. She embodied joy, strength, and light.
Pat is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Chuck Smith of Bakersfield, California; daughter, Kay Berry of Houston; daughter, June Dupré of Marble Falls; granddaughters, Alex and Claire Dupré of Marble Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pat is preceded in death by Vernon, her husband of 25 years; her parents; Allen Vinson, her second love of 30 years; and Lucille Phillips, her sister.
In recent years, Pat was blessed with the compassionate, loving, care of Marie, Christy, Brenda, Allison, and Madyson.
The family has requested any memorial contributions be sent to the American Heart Association and/or the American Cancer Society.
