Oscar Everett Green

Funeral services for Oscar Everett Green, 80, of Lufkin will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Kent Childers officiating. Interment will follow in the Berry Cemetery.

Mr. Green was born May 23, 1943 in the Moffett Community of Angelina County, Texas to the late Inez (Greer) and Oscar Ethram Green, and died Saturday, December 23, 2023 at his residence.

Mr. Green was a self-employed plumber and prolific horse trader. He loved farming and trading horses. Livestock meant everything to him, animals were always in his heart. Mr. Green trained a cutting horse for competition and won 3rd in the nation. He was a stubborn but legendary man.

He had a green thumb and grew magnificent gardens. Some plants grew taller than his house. His watermelons were especially memorable, sparking memories of restful summer days eating them under the tree.

Mr. Green enjoyed watching The Three Stooges with his great-grandson, Jr., every Saturday evening. He loved his wife dearly and missed her, so we’re sure he is happy to be with her again.

Survivors include his daughter, Carla Carr of Lufkin; granddaughter and husband, Anna and Bronson Grimes of Lufkin; great-grandchildren, Malaree and Thomas Hurst and Bronson Grimes, Jr., all of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Jack Benton of Lufkin, and Christy and Bill Brecheen of Pollok; brother and sister-in-law, Cyril and Margaret Lockey of Lufkin; and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Patricia Green; brother, Bo Jenkins; and sisters, Alma Cheatham, Joyce Comeaux, and Jean Booker.

Pallbearers will be Bronson Grimes, Bronson Grimes, Jr., Cyril Lockey, Clayton Mettlen, Mike Jones, James Jones, and Chris Hawthorne.

Honorary pallbearer will be Joey Hawthorne.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday morning prior to the services.
