Oscar Lane Clayton, 83, of Corrigan passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026 in a local hospital. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Clayton was born April 9, 1943 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Gretchen (Mayes) and Grady Clayton.
Mr. Clayton married the love of his life, JoAnn (Nanson), on November 1, 1963. He worked for Champion International as a forrester for 35 years. Mr. Clayton enjoyed being out on the Neches River, whether it be casting a line or just enjoying the peace and beauty he found in nature. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and never passed up the opportunity to be out in the woods. He loved tending to his garden, watching the fruit of his hard labor grow and bloom. Mr. Clayton enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, JoAnn Clayton; son and daughter-in-law, Grady Lane Clayton and Kasey; daughter, Melissa JoAnn Cheshler; grandchildren, Mason Robert Cheshler, Logan James Cheshler, and Jena Rose Clayton-Palmer; great-grandchild, Emerson Rose Palmer; step great-grandsons, Knox Phamm and Jett Phamm; step great-granddaughter, Jordan Huffman Phamm; sister, Mollie Clayton Jones; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Robert Keith Clayton.
