Ollie (Rogers) Barrett

Funeral services for Ollie (Rogers) Barrett, 65, of Lake Murvaul will be held Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother David Holland, Jr. officiating. Cremation will follow under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Barrett was born March 22, 1959 in Groveton, Texas to the late Patsy Ruth (Thomasson) and Joe C. Rogers, and died Sunday, March 31, 2024 in a Carthage, Texas hospital.

Ollie was born in Groveton, Texas, and grew up in Huntington, Texas. She graduated from high school there in 1978. Ollie married her first love, James, in June 1978 and enjoyed a beautiful, long marriage of almost 46 years. Something we all strive for.

Their firstborn son, Waylon, was born in February 1982. James joined the U.S. Air Force two years later and was stationed in New Mexico. Ollie earned her Registered Nursing degree from New Mexico State University in May of 1988, and their second son, Jared, was born two weeks later.

They lived in New Mexico for 8 years and later in Haughton, Louisiana, for 15 years. The family then moved to Timpson, Texas. In 2007, Ollie began working as a pediatric nurse and retired in 2018. She loved her work and was passionate about the children she cared for.

She formed lifelong friendships wherever she went. Ollie loved cooking and entertaining friends. She would always find reasons to host a party and was known for throwing the best parties. She loved fishing, especially with her husband, James. Ollie made friends easily, and those who were in her inner circle knew they were very special to her. Her love for others was evident in everything she did, and she was a nurturer at her core.

Both of her sons proudly served in the U.S. Army. Ollie was a devoted military wife and mother.

In 2020, Ollie and James moved into their "forever house" on Lake Murvaul, where they enjoyed long days fishing, boating, swimming, and welcoming family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, James Barrett of Lake Murvaul; sons and fiancées, Waylon Barrett and Nikki Crane of Sherman, and Jared Barrett and Rachel Hodgson of Keithville, Louisiana; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Laurie Rogers of Waco; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Richard Barrett of Timpson, and Della and Eric Conner of Waco; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Terry and Mariela Barrett of Lufkin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sharon Barrett and Robert Storey of Queen City; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joe Paul Rogers; and parents-in-law, James R. and Mary Jo (Norsworthy) Barrett.
