Funeral services for Nelda L. Bryan, 91, of Pollok will be held Sunday February 15, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Steve Cowart officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Broaddus.
Mrs. Bryan was born June 25, 1934 in Broaddus, Texas to the late Alice (Sanders) and Robert Lee Reynolds, and died Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at her residence.
Mrs. Bryan was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was centered on faith, family, and caring for others. Her love extended far beyond her immediate family. Throughout her life, she opened her heart and home to many children who were not her own, helping to raise Rose Strong and Freddie Bryan and loving them as if they were her own.
Mrs. Bryan retired from the Lufkin State School, where she faithfully served as the Superintendent’s secretary. She was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church and later attended Grace Baptist Church when it became easier to be closer to home. Her faith remained a steady foundation throughout her life.
She enjoyed time at the lake and boating, but perhaps her greatest joy was cooking for those she loved. Nelda was known for her incredible Thanksgiving meals, and her fried chicken, homemade cakes, and peach cobbler became family favorites that will not soon be forgotten.
Nelda’s legacy is one of generosity, faith, and unconditional love, and she will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to call her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Janis Stewart and husband Sammie, Charlotte Tarver, all of Lufkin, and Brenda Terry and husband Marty of Pollok; grandchildren, Jennifer Burgett, Doug Hornsby, Scott Watson, and Erin Terry; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Hanson, Caitlen Watson, Alyson Watson, Maggie Hoffman, Lily Hornsby, Jackson Hornsby, and Stevie Terry; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Prentice Douglas “Jack” Bryan, grandson, Michael Terry; granddaughter, Amber Terry; and sisters, Lola Mae Reynolds, Lera Parker, and V.L. Reynolds.
Pallbearers will be Douglas Hornsby, Edward Williams, Sammie Stewart, Martin Terry, Erin Terry, and Randall Craft.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Harbor Hospice and Visiting Angels for the compassionate care shown to Nelda.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oak Grove Cemetery Association, 5121 E State Highway 103, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
