Memorial services for Michael Marvin Nelson, 66, will be held Monday, July 28, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at New Life Corrigan with Pastor Kelly Havard officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Michael Marvin Nelson of Chester, Texas passed away on July 22, 2025 in Kingwood, Texas surrounded by his loving family after suffering insurmountable injuries in a motorcycle accident. Michael was born on November 10, 1958 in Beaumont, Texas, the son of Jackie Wayne Nelson and Martha Marie Nelson. His childhood was spent in Vidor helping run the family store, playing baseball, and going fishing. In 1971, the Nelsons moved to Channelview, Texas. Mike attended school there and was involved in woodshop.

In 1976 at age 17, he enlisted in the Air Force and went to basic training in San Antonio, Texas. He was stationed overseas in Oxfordshire, England at Upper Heyford Air Force Base. While there, he traveled across the continent on high-level security missions in the Security Force. In 1979, he was married and had his first child, Eric Nelson while stationed in Bossier City, Louisiana. A few years later after leaving the service, he had Christopher Nelson, Jennifer Nelson, and Sean Nelson.

Mike was a man of many talents. After his service to his country was complete, he used his experience in many different fields. He did security work, worked at energy companies and eventually became a truck driver logging over a million miles. He loved to share stories of his time on the road and give suggestions on places that “you just have to see.”

In his final years, he resided in Chester, Texas managing the family ranch. He loved the beauty and solitude of the area and made many friends with local residents. He was an active member at New Life Corrigan, his church. Mike’s hobbies included traveling, riding and building motorcycles, and music. He could spend hours listening to his vast music library, recording songs, and making playlists to share with others. He volunteered for many organizations, including the USO, civic organizations, and food banks. He loved to help others, especially those in need. Mike was happiest behind the wheel, radio playing, while he went somewhere beautiful.

Remaining to cherish Mike’s memory are children, Jennifer Nelson and Eric Nelson; daughter-in-law, Angela Nelson; grandchildren, Chase Nelson, Sean Tyler Hill, Karleigh Hein, and Hunter Nelson; siblings, Steve and Kathy Nelson and Lori and Elbert Rives; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Preceding Mike in death are parents, Jack and Marie Nelson; children, Christopher Nelson and Sean Nelson; grandparents, Thomas Stillwell, Martha Thorne, Lola Nelson, and Nathan Nelson.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the services.
