Michael Arthur Havard

Graveside services for Michael Arthur Havard, 64, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Tom Havard Cemetery with Brother Cary Modisett officiating.

Michael passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 1, 2023. He was born December 12, 1958 in Beaumont, Texas.

Michael is survived by his parents, Charles Havard and Gaye Nell Walker Havard; his sister, Cherie Havard and brother-in-law Andrew Coulson; brothers, Charles Kevin Havard, Patrick Havard and sister-in-law Becky, and Jon Crain and sister-in-law Carrie; nephew, Charles Chuck Havard and wife Seychelle; nephew, Joseph Joey Havard; as well as great niece and nephews; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles, and his beloved cat, Pickles.

Michael attended school in Dallas, Texas, and Houston Texas, and graduated from John H. Reagan High School in Houston in 1977. He was baptized June 9, 1974 at Our Redeemer Holy Lutheran Church.

Michael enjoyed family gatherings, and when younger, babysitting his nephews Charles and Joseph. Michael was planning for Christmas and making his Christmas shopping list at the time of his passing. In addition to holidays, Michael especially enjoyed family trips to the Gulf of Mexico and Galveston beaches, and eating Gulf shrimp any time.

Michael was fluent in American Sign Language, and loved to laugh in both English and American Sign Language, as well as watching football with his family during the holidays. Our family would often have to ask Michael to slow his signing down when Michael was telling stories about eclipses, space exploration, and football.

Michael was an amateur astronomer who enjoyed using his telescopes to study the stars and planets, watch meteor showers, and followed NASA’s space exploration. Here on earth, Michael studied crystals and collected and studied interesting and beautiful rocks during his trips with family. Michael was a talented artist. He combined his talent with his love of space exploration and often used space exploration themes in his art.

Michael was loved and will be missed by his friends and family.
