Michael Charles Haas

A memorial visitation for Michael Charles Haas, 76, of Lufkin will be held Friday, September 25, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carroway Funeral Home. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Standing firm in faith in his Lord and Savior, Michael Charles Haas, stepped into the presence of Christ on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Born in Bryan, Texas to Charles and Virginia Harris Haas on September 14, 1950, Mike joined his sister Sherril in completing their family. In 1959, they moved to Nacogdoches where Mike grew up in an idyllic time:

attending Raguet Elementary, joining Boy Scout Troop 606, riding his bike, learning the trumpet, and making lifelong friends. Raised in the Lutheran faith, Mike served as an acolyte and later organist at Redeemer Lutheran Church. As an industrious young man, Mike began mowing lawns at age 12, sold Fuller Brush products at 14, built poultry equipment for Big Dutchman at 16, and worked as a gas jockey at age 18 for Taylor’s Exxon. After a chance meeting with Mr. Jewel Byrd, Mike began his 38 year banking career at Commercial National Bank as a teller in the drive through window.

While attending Nacogdoches High School, Mike met the love of his life, Debbie Dodson. Graduating in 1969, they continued their education at Stephen F. Austin State Teacher’s College, marrying in December 1970.

Michael is survived by his wife of 55 years, Debbie Haas of Lufkin; son, Matt Haas and wife Belisa of Lufkin; grandchildren, Stewart, Grace, Dawson, and Chapman; daughter, Kelly Land and husband Jon of Jackson, Tennessee; granddaughter, Jacey Cook; great-grandsons, Drew and Gray Cook; daughter, Stacey and husband Josh Plaisance of Dayton, Ohio; and grandchildren, Aidan (Kassidea), Bryce, and Caylin. Mike is also survived by his sister, Sherril Crisp (Ben) of Nacogdoches, Texas and nephew, Richard Barnhart of Jasper, Texas; brothers-in-law, Milt Dodson (Kaye), Mark Dodson (Jennifer), Nolan Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Michael is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Virginia Haas; in-laws, Reverend George and Joyce Dodson; and sister in-law, Gaye Dodson Brown.
