Funeral services for Melba Schoennagel, 75, of Lufkin will be held Monday, December 31, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mark Forrest officiating. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery in Apple Springs.
Mrs. Schoennagel was born February 9, 1943 in Groveton, Texas to the late Willie Pauline (Spring) and Robert Rex Due, and died Friday, December 28, 2018 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Schoennagel resided in Lufkin most of her life and retired from Lufkin Industries. She was a professional fishing guide, particularly for bass. Mrs. Schoennagel loved her family and enjoyed teaching her great-granddaughters how to bake pies. She was known for her smile and as a caregiver. First and foremost, she loved the Lord. She played the piano and organ, and was the organist and a longtime member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Dietrich Schoennagel of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Debi Ann and David Read of Lufkin; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Craig and Melinda Helton and Mark Dwaine Helton, all of Lufkin; granddaughters, Chelsey Helton, Jessica Robertson and Erica Wade; grandsons, Jeremy Read, Jason Read, Mark Helton, Jr., Brandon Helton, and Cody Helton; 12 great-grandchildren; and her terrier, Bitsy.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Read, Jason Read, Bubba Helton, Brandon Helton, Cody Helton, and Brandon Wade.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
