Matt was born December 15, 1935, in Shreveport, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents Celeste Derryberry Miller and Hollis H. Miller and brother Frederic Logan Miller. He is survived by his wife Janet Williams Miller and children M. Hollis Miller Jr. and wife Janet, Loretta Richards Miller, Grace Miller Bruner and husband James, James Robertson Miller and wife Angela, and Katherine Miller Todd and husband Jeffrey. He is also survived by grandchildren Mary Jane Britt and husband Blake, Hunter Britt, Mary Ellison Britt, Matthew George LeBlanc, Marissa Richards, Alan Wyn Miller, Jane Ann Miller, James Miller Todd, and Hollis Alderson Todd. His two nephews Frederic Logan Miller and Jack Ryan Miller.
Matt attended Allen Academy in Bryan, TX and Byrd High School in Shreveport, LA. His college years were spent at Louisiana State University and University of Houston where he graduated with a B.S. in 1958. He was a lifetime member of SAE.
Matt spent his career in the Petrochemical industry where he held various VP and Board positions while affiliated with Arkansas Louisiana Gas, Georgia Pacific Chemical Division, Stanalchem and Fallek Chemical. At the time of his death, he served as President of Hickory Acquisitions Group. During his professional career he was a member of National Petroleum Refiners Association (member of Founders Club), Southwest Chemical Association, Houston Chemical Association, Racemics, “C” Club, Texas Bar Association Arbitration Committee, and Honorary Captain of Former Texas Rangers Foundation.
Matt was a longtime member of Lakeside Country Club, Broadmoor Golf Club, Houston Racquet Club and Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.
Matt served on the Boards of the Texas Historical Foundation, Shelby Historical Society, Odyssey House Texas, and was an active member and served on the board of The Bryan Museum in Galveston, Texas. Matt was also a long-time supporter of Boys & Girls Country and the Brookwood Community.
Matt enjoyed his years at Skull Creek Ranch in Shelby, TX, where he established a historical marker for the Cotton Gin on his property. For many summers at their Colorado home, Matt and Janet spent wonderful times hosting their guests at Garden of the Gods Club, Kissing Camels Golf Club, and the Broadmoor Golf Club. Matt greatly appreciated his time spent with family and truly valued his many friends.
