Matthew Thomas Brasuell

Memorial services for Matthew Thomas Brasuell, 58, of Lufkin will be held Friday, June 5, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Trey Ainsworth officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Matthew was born December 17, 1967 in Abilene, Texas to the late Neva Joyce (Jones) and John Calvin Brasuell, and died Saturday, May 30, 2026 in a local hospital.

Matthew graduated from Texas Tech University and he and Melinda raised their family in Richmond, Texas. He was an animal lover and would welcome any stray, and he loved his time spent with his faithful companions Chewy, Carl and Olive. More than anything, he absolutely adored his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “PoPo”. Matthew had a wide variety of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed tractors, collecting, antiquing fishing, gardening, canning, relaxing at the beach, spending time outdoors, and was a patron of the arts. He never met a stranger. He could engage anyone in conversation, and he would light up a room with his wit and charm. He was always very kind and was generous to all. One of his mottos was “never stop learning”.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Melinda Brasuell of Lufkin; son, Zachary Brasuell of Greenville; daughter, Madison Haverkamp and husband Ben of Lindsay; grandchildren, Joseph and Emma, both of Lindsay; brother, Johnny Brasuell and wife Theresa of Wolfforth; brother, Mark Brasuell and husband Aiden Grey of Denver, Colorado; sister, Katrina Gundling and husband Fred of Wichita Falls; cousin, Lisa Boehm and husband Jeff of Rockwall; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
