Mary Sue Sessions

Graveside services for Mary Sue Sessions, 84, will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells with Pastor Kevin Poage officiating.

Mrs. Sessions was born February 22, 1941 to the late Bertha (Vann) and Elmer Byrd, and died Monday, February 24, 2025 in Wells.

Mrs. Sessions lived in Wells, Texas and was a member of Carpenter’s Way Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Wells High School and Massey Business College. She enrolled in Oil Painting at Angelina College. She loved learning the art of painting and repeated the same class multiple times. She was a past member of the Lufkin Art Guild, winning numerous ribbons for her paintings. In the 80’s she started her arts & crafts business, A Touch of Country. Along with her husband (Joel) they traveled to craft shows all over Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma. She loved working in her yard, painting, reading, especially her Bible, she loved children, so she volunteered her time at Mother’s Day Out and Central Elementary, and spending time with family.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David Ormsby of Lufkin; sons and daughter-in-law, Derrick W. Sessions of Livingston, Michael and Misty Sessions of Lufkin; grandchildren and spouses, Robin and David Sloat, Sara and Ryan Nash, Drew and Kim Ormsby, Chancy and Jared Polasek, Stormy and Chase Hannah, Rider and Grace Sessions, Cullen and Chloe Sessions, Hannah Sessions and Tucker Sessions; 16 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Glenda Byrd of Wells; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pete and LaDonna Sullivan of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joel W. Sessions; and brothers and sister-in-law, Robert and Vanita Byrd, and Don Byrd.

Pallbearers will be Drew Ormsby, Rider Sessions, Cullen Sessions, Tucker Sessions, William Ormsby and Chase Hannah.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jared Polasek, David Sloat, Ryan Nash and Casey Wilson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rube Sessions Memorial Library, P.O. Box 120, Wells, Texas 75976.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2025 at Carroway Funeral Home.
