Mary Evelyn (Burrous) Rawls

Visitation for Mary Evelyn (Burrous) Rawls, 85, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, November 29, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carroway Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in Whitehouse Cemetery in Lufkin Texas.

Mary Evelyn was born September 25, 1940 in Lufkin, Texas, and has resided in Lufkin her entire life - a graduate of Lufkin High School in 1959. Mary Burrous and Billy Rawls had been childhood friends as both of their fathers worked together. Fast forward to 1957 and Billy Rawls realized Mary was the love of his life, and they married in 1959.

Mary Evelyn worked for Texas State Optical and retired soon after Billy Paul retired. Retirement was good to them, and she enjoyed spending time with her family, working in the garden, hunting and fishing alongside Billy Paul. She loved to cook and made the best chicken and dumplings from scratch for any occasion. Mary Evelyn was a wonderful mother and loved her family and her Lord with all her heart.

Mary Evelyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lou Rawls Liles and Victor Anthony Vertucci of Leander; and her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Ray and Angie Dawn Rawls of Godley; and grandchildren, Toshia McKeon and her husband Damian McKeon of Leander, Christopher Byrd of Albany, Oregon, Colton Rawls and his spouse, Ashton Rawls of College Station, Macy Charanza and her husband Jacob Charanza of Lufkin, Gregory King and his wife Sunni King of Godley, and Jared Taylor of Godley. Mary Evelyn has also been blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Sean and Darren McKeon of Leander, Allie, Kate and Cooper Charanza of Lufkin, and Brighton and Cheyenne King of Godley.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Edward Burrous; mother, Cleo Inez Withers; sisters, Annie Aileen Bennet and Jerri Leene Crews; husband of 67 years, Billy Paul Rawls; and son, Paul Edmond Rawls.
