Graveside services for Mary Helen (Moore) May, 98, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Augusta Cemetery in Houston County with Reverend Steve Killam officiating.

Mrs. May was born March 30, 1926 in Augusta, Texas to the late Mary Bell (Bobbitt) and Byron Wilson Moore, and died Saturday, September 7, 2024 in a local hospice facility.

Mary was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She enjoyed reading, working jigsaw puzzles, doing word searches, and playing “42” dominoes in her spare time. She was a very independent, strong, hardworking woman and she loved to travel. Mary was of the Methodist faith. She will be missed by all, especially her constant companion, her Beagle, Dolly.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Sandy May of Huntington; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Butch Sapp of Lufkin, Kathryn and Johnny Mote of Wheatland, Wyoming; son, Michael May of Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and James Richard of Houston; daughter-in-law, Sandi May of Houston; grandchildren, Nick May, Nolan May, Davy May, Melanie May, Meredith May, Lauren Sapp, Sara Mote, John Mote, Travis May, Michaela May, Brian Richard, Jennifer Richard; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James William May in 2002; son, James David May in 2021; and her siblings.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
