Funeral services for Mary Lee Madden, 80, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ron Meadows officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.

Mrs. Madden was born September 27, 1936 in Amity, Arkansas to the late Hazel Crystal (Daniel) and Waldo Johns, and died Monday, September 18, 2017 at her residence.

Mrs. Madden attended Longview High School and was a drummer in the Lobo Band. She had resided in Lufkin since 1958. She worked for Boles Supermarket for 30 years and was a Teacher’s Aide at Brookhollow Elementary School for 13 years. Mrs. Madden enjoyed camping at the river and spending time with her family. She loved baking cakes for friends. She was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church and the Hope Sunday school class. Mrs. Madden loved her church.

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Gayle and Steve Chandler and Phyllis Kay Davis, all of Lufkin; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Paul Johns of Kerrville and Robert and Gail Goebert of Arlington; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Linda Madden and Johnny and Mary Madden, all of Lufkin; sisters-in-law, Wilda Koonce and Ruthie Chote, both of Grand Saline; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, Dale Madden; and son, Robert Madden.

Pallbearers will be Matt Chandler, Michael Andrew Teer, Revis Smith, Joey Horton, Kevin Jones, and Don Bess.

The family extends special thanks to Mrs. Madden’s caregivers, Gina Baxter, Vicky Mettlen, and Melissa Bryan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
