Memorial services for Mary Pearl Hinkie, 87, of Lufkin will be held Friday, April 10, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randy Brown officiating. Cremation arrangements will be under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hinkie was born April 3, 1939 in Monroe, Louisiana to the late Dorothy Mae (Wallace) and Harold Coates, and died Tuesday, April 7, 2026 in a local hospital.
Mary lived a life rooted in love, devotion, and simple joys that brought beauty to those around her. She worked for approximately 15 years as a secretary at Lufkin Middle School, a role she truly loved. Her warm spirit and kind presence made a lasting impression on both students and staff, and she took great pride in being part of the school community.
Mary found happiness in creating; whether in her flowerbeds, where she lovingly grew a variety of beautiful blooms, or in her kitchen, where she became known as a talented baker. For many years, she made cakes that were as beautiful as they were delicious, including stunning wedding cakes that became part of cherished celebrations. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, pouring into them the same fierce love she carried for her entire family.
She shared 64 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Bobby; a lifetime of love that, to those who knew them, seemed to pass far too quickly. Mary Pearl Hinkie will be remembered for her gentle strength, her creativity, and the deep, unwavering love she gave so freely. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Dwayne Hinkie of Lufkin; daughters, Stacy Buschman and husband John Robert of Lufkin, Wendy Whitworth and husband Jud of Corrigan; grandson, Robert Dewayne Buschman of Lufkin; granddaughter, Amber Buschman Bell and husband Adrian of Lufkin; Keaton Whitworth and wife Lexi of Kennard; six great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Coates and wife Margaret of Shreveport, Louisiana; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Harley Oren Jones.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Winnie Berry Humane Society of Angelina County, 1102 N. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or to a shelter of your choice.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon prior to the service.
