Mary Virginia Cronin

Memorial services for Mary Virginia Cronin, 93, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Wesley Putnam officiating. The ashes of Mary Virginia and her husband will be placed in the Columbarium of Lufkin First United Methodist Church in a private ceremony. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cronin was born December 3, 1925, near West Monroe, Louisiana to the late Mary Ann (Harper) and George Wesley Bolton, and went to be with her Lord Thursday, January 10, 2019 in Lufkin. She grew up as the youngest of eleven and attended Byrd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Mary Virginia married Russell Cronin in 1945, and the couple had two children. She operated her own kindergarten for twelve years out of their residence in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She enjoyed sewing, oil painting, stained glass, and quilting. After moving to Woodville, Texas in 1973, she began gardening and canning and motorcycling. She and Russell traveled throughout the United States and Canada on their Suzuki, putting over 140,000 miles on the bike. They then retired the bike and began traveling in their Fifth Wheel travel trailer. In 2005 they relocated to Lufkin, Texas.

Mary Virginia is remembered with love by her son, Russell W. Cronin, III., and wife Theresa; daughter, Suzanne Virginia Cronin; grandchildren, Mary Evelyn Gard and husband Joe, and Sarah Theresa Hernandez and husband Hector; great-grandchildren, Ella Louise Cronin Gard, Rebecca Anne Gard, Gabriel Warner Hernandez, and Andrew Russell Hernandez.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell W. Cronin, Jr.; and her brothers and sisters, Joye Lee, Lilly Lois, George Otho, Myrtie Maye, Ruth Thelma, Ora Mildred, Carrie Marie, G.W., Jr., Billie Harper, and James Bernard.
