Funeral services for Mary Helen Collins, 77, of Huntington will be held Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Danny Cryer officiating. Due to the inclement weather there will be no service at the graveside.
Mrs. Collins was born August 18, 1947 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Frances (Willis) and Eugene Dee Cochran, and died Wednesday, January 8, 2025 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Collins resided in Huntington most of her life. She was an LVN, and worked for Memorial Hospital, Dr. Moore, and in home health for a combined 57 years. She was a loving mother and doting grandmother and was very close to her family. She enjoyed playing card games with the family and was an avid reader. She loved to travel with her girlfriends, Karen, Hope and Darlene. Mrs. Collins was very spiritual and loved her Lord. She was a member of First Ora Missionary Baptist Church where she taught the women’s Sunday school class up until the day she passed. She had also served as Church Treasurer.
Survivors include her son, Charles David Collins of Huntington; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Stephen Webb of Lufkin; granddaughters, Claire Moody and Emma Moody, both of Lufkin; sister-in-law, Linda Bowdion of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 43 years, Charles Henry Collins in 2010; and brother, Wayne Bowdion.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon prior to the services.
