Mary Lee Abney

Graveside services for Mary Lee Abney, 81, of Diboll will be held Friday, May 24, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Dr. John W. Greene officiating.

Mrs. Abney was born March 8, 1943 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Zelda (Whisenant) and Travis Hearn, and died Saturday, May 11, 2024 in a local hospital.

Mary was a graduate of Lufkin High School with the Class of ’61,  graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with her Bachelor’s degree, and from the University of Houston with her Master’s degree in Social Work. She loved her work and dedicated her career to being a Social Worker. She was of the Christian faith. Mary loved Jesus and took Him as her Lord and Savior.

Survivors include her sons, Warren Westmoreland of Lufkin, Brian Westmoreland of Diboll; sister-in-law, Donna Hearn; family friend, Donna Parish; along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William “Bill” Abney; brothers, Charles Hearn and T.L. Hearn; nephew, Terry Hearn; niece, Carrie Hearn; cousin, James Parish; and family friend, Martha Johnson.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
