Marvin Clements Slusher

Funeral services for Marvin Clements Slusher of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jimmy Hedges officiating. Interment will follow in Whitehouse Cemetery.

Marvin Clements Slusher was born in Port Lavaca, Texas on October 5, 1936, and died peacefully at his PineCrest residence in Lufkin, Texas on December 1, 2025 at the age of 89, with his wife of 66 years by his side.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Slusher; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Julie Slusher of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Aimee Slusher of Lufkin; grandchildren, Jeff Slusher and wife Terra, Lauren Slusher and fiancé Matthew Mitchell, Hannah Slusher; and the wife of his late grandson, Katie Slusher; brother-in-law, Bobby Riley; and other nieces, nephews, and friends.

Marvin was a member of LifePoint Church (formerly Calvary Baptist Church) since 1961, where he served in a number of roles, including as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Marvin and Patsy taught Sunday School for young married couples at Calvary for many years, leading by example and maintaining meaningful relationships with them to this day. Later, Marvin enjoyed teaching the senior adult class for many years until he was no longer able. Marvin served in the Army for three years after high school and then worked in various jobs before being hired at the paper mill in Lufkin. He worked there for 38 years and retired as an Electrical and Instrument Supervisor. Marvin was known for his teasing, pestering nature and mischievous smile. In his retirement years, he enjoyed golfing, woodworking, photography, and attending the events of his grandchildren. Most importantly, he loved traveling and spending time with the love of his life, Patsy. Marvin truly loved, served, and honored his wife and set an example for others to follow.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father, L.J. Slusher, and stepmother, Cathie Slusher; mother, Rita Clements Robbins; brother, Gene Slusher; sisters, Darline Kirkpatrick and Gayle Riley; and grandson, Bradley Slusher.

Pallbearers will be Dale Childress, Andy Johnson, Clint Reed, Joe Martin, Smokey Davidson, Johnny Walker, and Steve Dent.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Simmons, Ray Funderburk, Harry Mewbourn, Tommy Seymore, and Rhon Didrikson.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon prior to the services.
