Funeral services for Marvin Lynwood Schmidt, 77, of Lufkin will be held Monday, October 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ben Stokes and Brother Shane Stover officiating. Interment will follow in the Homer Cemetery.
Mr. Schmidt was born November 3, 1939 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Edmund and Opal (Sharp) Schmidt, and died Friday, October 27, 2017 in a local nursing home.
Mr. Schmidt had resided in Lufkin all of his life. He started working at the age of 17 at Lufkin Telephone Exchange. He retired in 2000 as Superintendent of Construction after 43 years of service. He not only took pride in his work but truly relished the many friends he made over the years. After retirement he and Mable enjoyed gardening, camping, and travelling, but he mostly cherished his time with family. He was of the Assembly of God faith.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mable Schmidt of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Dianne Schmidt of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, DeeDee and Keith Thomason of Lufkin; grandchildren and spouses, Brandon and Jinny Schmidt, Jordan and Brittney Schmidt, Kleat Schmidt and Rebecca Davis, Chrissi Schmidt, Alex Wallace, Michael and Melody Thomason, Marcus and Jenny Thomason, and Nick and Kelli Thomason; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, E. B. Schmidt, Jr. of Beaumont; brothers and sisters-in-law, Orren and Alice Schmidt and Billy Ray and Mable Strange, all of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nola and Travis Stuckey of Lufkin and Darlene and Billy Oliver of Beaumont; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Schmidt; and granddaughter, Lizzie Wallace.
Pallbearers will be William Gates, Steve Chandler, David Murphy, Butch Sapp, Thurman Jacobs, and David Morgan.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Williamson and former co-workers.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Parkwood Place and Heart to Heart Hospice.
Memorial contributions may be made to Life Church Huntington, 305 N US Highway 69, Huntington, Texas 75949.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
