Marvin L. "Buddy" Colmer

A Celebration of Life for Marvin L. “Buddy” Colmer, 82, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tim Watson and Reverend Mark A. Newton officiating. Private family interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Colmer was born December 13, 1935 in Houston, Texas to the late Pauline (Kelly) and Marvin Leonal Colmer, Sr., and died Monday, September 24, 2018 at The Joseph House.

Mr. Colmer had resided in Lufkin for 54 years. He graduated from Carthage High School and Panola College, and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. Mr. Colmer retired from Brookshire Brothers after 43 years, where he served as Senior Vice President and was on the Board of Directors. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Crown Colony Homeowners’ Association.

Mr. Colmer was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting. He enjoyed RVing and spending the winter in the Texas Valley. For 30 years they spent the fall in Fun Valley, Colorado where they enjoyed square and round dancing.

Mr. Colmer was a member of First Baptist Church Lufkin for 54 years, where he served as a Deacon, on the Board of Trustees, and Sunday school teacher. He was active in the Angelina Arts Alliance and Pines Theatre Productions.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Patsy (Wherry) Colmer of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law Randall Lee and Jackie Colmer of Conroe; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Michael Hughey of Frisco; grandchildren, Ryan Colmer, Jessica Sechrist and husband Garrett, and Bradley Hughey; great-granddaughter, Anna Lea Sechrist; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Owen of Zachary, Louisiana and Eloise Lout of Metairie, Louisiana; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan and Jack Smith of Henderson; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Bradley Hughey, Hubie Owen, Paul Owen, Roger Parker, Jim Reagan, and Randy Deal.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Colmer, Marlon Lout, Greg Smith, Rex Partman, Mike Jones, Tommy Holman, Dub Cox, and Gene Brookshire,

The family extends special thanks to the staffs of The Joseph House and Hospice in the Pines for their wonderful care.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
