Visitation for Martin “Jim” Netherland, 90, of Huntington will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mr. Netherland was born November 3, 1927 in Paradise, Kansas to the late Murial (Thurston) and Paul Netherland, and died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at his residence.
Mr. Netherland served his country in the United States Army. He worked as a Journeyman with the Merchant Marines for over forty years and circumnavigated the entire world during that time. Mr. Netherland loved to dance and enjoyed building things. So much so, that he built his own home by himself.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Netherland of Huntington; daughters, Wanda Crews and husband Andy of Beaumont and Alison Baker and husband Teddy of Massachusetts; son, Claude Olivier, Jr. of Vidor; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita Peterman and husband Ronnie, Gladys Brockway and husband John, Bernitha Letsch and husband Albert, all of McPherson, Kansas, and Alda Lawrence of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Claudia Ann Killen; and daughter-in-law, Judy Ann Olivier.
