Memorial services for Martha Ellen “Mama Jo” Currie, 102, of Lufkin will be held Monday, July 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the PineCrest Retirement Community Chapel with Reverend Mark A. Newton officiating. Family graveside services will be held in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mrs. Currie was born October 21, 1915 in Emory, Texas to the late Martha Ellen (Terry) and William James Potts, and died Wednesday, July 11, 2018 in Lufkin.
Mrs. Currie was a teacher at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal School from 1957-1968. She was a member of First Baptist Church Lufkin.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Mike Gipson of Lufkin; grandson, Richard Currie and wife Denise; granddaughters, Ellen Gipson, Karen Currie, and Kelley Moore and husband David; great-grandchildren, Brandon Currie and wife Erin, Jordyn Currie, Justin Parish, Bradley Parish and wife Baylee, Wayne Carter, Kimberly Graham and husband Aaron, and Maci Jan Moore; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Travis Currie; son and daughter-in-law, John Charles and Jo Anna Currie; and 12 siblings.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund or Organ Fund of First Baptist Church Lufkin, 106 E. Bremond Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901 or Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
