Lufkin, TX

Graveside services for Margie Ann Fenley Evans will be held Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Fielder Memorial Cemetery with Brother Greg Denman officiating.

Margie Ann Fenley Evans was born December 5, 1939 to Jeff and Marjorie (Courtney) Fenley in Lufkin, Texas and passed away peacefully at The Joseph House Monday, July 28, 2025. She married Walter J. Evans in Denver, Colorado June 2, 1964.

Her career in the airline industry began with Trans-Texas Airways and included working for Braniff International Airways and American Airlines in the years that followed. She interviewed for Qantas Air Lines at one point, but in the interview process when asked if she knew which animal was their mascot, she responded confidently, a kangaroo. The mascot was a koala. Nonetheless, her career enabled her to take part in some amazing airline opportunities such as working with Paul McCartney and his Wings Tour, and a project she was most proud of: serving as part of the flight crew bringing home the last of the soldiers from the Vietnam War with Operation Freedom Bird.

Margie and Walt lived a wonderful life of adventure, a trip to India was the highlight of their travels, but their home was always the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

They enjoyed time living in New Mexico and embracing the culture and slower pace of life found in Ruidoso.

She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and brother, Tommy Fenley. She leaves to cherish her memory, Wayne and Sherry Durham, Steve and Jan Porter, Roy and Donna Owens, Denny Porter, James and Stephanie Khattak, Chris and Sheraden Richards, Kendelle Porter, Esther Matthaei, Lauren Owens, and dear friend, Carol Scott.

Cats were always most dear to her, none as precious as her own, the late Chula, Happy, Honey, Raj, Lady Fe, and she is survived by Chula 2.
