Graveside services for Marie Steed, 100, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Avinger Cemetery in Avinger, Texas with Fred Meisenheimer, Reverend Ralph Wood, and George Goolsby officiating.
Ms. Steed was born July 12, 1917 in Cass County, Texas to the late T. F. and Harriet E. (Holland) Steed, and died Monday, December 25, 2017 in Lufkin
Ms. Steed lived most of her life in Avinger, Texas working in businesses in that area as well as in Dallas and Tyler. She moved to Lufkin in 2004 to be close to family. She graduated from Avinger High School, the College of Marshall and attended the University of Texas. She enjoyed gardening and was a voracious reader especially enjoying mystery books. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 75 years.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Elizabeth and L.D. Sherman of Amarillo, Nadine Patterson of Lorena, Peggy and John Myrick of Tyler, Anita Walker of Avinger, Sherry Massey of Dallas, Suzanne and Ralph Wood of Waco, Julia and Bill McKelvy of Lufkin, Sidney and Fred Meisenheimer of Dallas, George and Cathy Goolsby of Houston, David and Sara Goolsby of Auburn, Alabama, and Barbara and Paul Bauernfeind of Amarillo; close friends, Diann and Bill Kennedy of Jefferson; and a host of other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; one brother; as well as several nieces and nephews.
