Maria Elena Garza

Mass of Christian Burial for Maria Elena Garza, 75, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. Jose Marina and Deacon Jesus Reyes officiating. Interment will follow in Whitehouse Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Garza was born April 24, 1948 in Zacatecas, Mexico to the late Maria (Torres) and Manuel Lopez, and died Saturday, December 23, 2023 in a Houston hospital.

Mrs. Garza was a longtime resident of Lufkin. She enjoyed cooking and shopping, and loved her family dearly. She was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her husband, Gabriel Garza; son, Javier Garza (ϯ); daughter, Leticia Galindo; son and daughter-in-law, Felipe and Herendira Garza; daughter and son-in-law, Adriana and Antonio Ortega; daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Roberto Ramirez; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Calvin Curl; son and daughter-in-law, Gabriel, Jr. and Alicia Garza; 10 granddaughters; 13 grandsons; 40 great-grandchildren; sister, Maria Socorro Lopez; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one sister.

Pallbearers will be Jose Luis Salazar, Jr., Heriberto Galindo, Larry Ramirez, Felipe Galindo, Josue (Pelon), Bobby Ramirez, Calvin Curl, Jr., Gabriel Garza, Xavier Ramirez, Javier Garza, and Cristobal Garza.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel.
