Marcia "Sputnik" Brown

Funeral services for Marcia “Sputnik” Brown, 64, of Lufkin will be held Monday, July 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Virginia Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Ms. Brown was born August 7, 1957 in Harris County, Texas to Mary Alyce (Turbyfill) and the late Morris Gilmore, and died Thursday, July 14, 2022 in a local nursing home.

Ms. Brown had resided in Lufkin for 15 years, and previously resided in Pasadena. She was a registered nurse at Park Plaza in Houston. In her younger years, she was an outstanding softball player, as well as an avid fan. Ms. Brown was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her mother, Mary Gilmore of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Marvis and John Wilson of Dayton; nephew, John Creg Wilson and wife Venessa of La Porte; niece, Marquesa Polhans of Dayton; and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father and her son, Justin Brown.
