Mable Joyce Lakey

Private graveside services for Mable Joyce Lakey, 74, of Lufkin will be held at Whitehouse Cemetery.

Mrs. Lakey was born March 16, 1949 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Esther I. (Havard) and William Adam Austin, and died Sunday, December 10, 2023 in a Conroe hospital. She was a lifetime resident of Lufkin and worked as a private sitter at PineCrest Retirement Community for 10 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Nita Allen and partner Lawrence LaPerna of Houston; grandchildren, Samantha Molina of Hudson and William Allen of Lufkin; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister and brother-in-law, Bethel and Lonnie Hollingsworth of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Cindy Austin of Dalhart; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Edward Lakey; sister, Juanita Martin; and brothers, Ray Austin and J.D. Austin.
