Luther D. Reed

Funeral services for Luther D. Reed, 86, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jay Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Reed was born November 7, 1931 in Burnett County, Texas to the late Nora (Baker) and Martin Luther Reed, and died Thursday, October 4, 2018 in Lufkin.

Mr. Reed served in the U.S. Army and retired from Temple Associates, Inc. following 28 years of employment. He was an active supporter of Angelina College athletics where he was known as PaPaw. Mr. Reed loved his family, especially his grandsons. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Clint and Terri Reed of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Walter Willmann of Lufkin; grandsons, Reed Porterfield of Lufkin, Kyle Reed of Dallas, and Benton Reed of Nacogdoches; brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Rachel Reed of Briggs; and a number of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Bette (Johnson) Reed.

Pallbearers will be Reed Porterfield, Kyle Reed, Benton Reed, Tim Alvey, Shawn Alvey, and Mark Mattson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ardie Dixon, John Lee Slaughter, Joe Moreno, and Guy Davis.

The family would like to express appreciation to PineCrest Retirement Community for their excellent healthcare. Special thanks to Sarah Reed and Emily Holman for their compassionate care as sitters.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
