Memorial services for Lou Langston, 74, of Lufkin will be held Friday, June 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church with The Reverend Ralph Morgan officiating.
Mrs. Langston was born to the late Stanton and Hazle Menefee in Dallas, Texas on May 8, 1944, but she grew up and was raised in Center, Texas. She was a graduate of Center High School in 1962. She then attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas where she pursued a degree in Education with an emphasis on Special Education. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and made many dear lifelong friends. There she would also meet the love of her life, her husband of 49 years, Gig Langston. They both went on to live and work in Houston for many years and started their family. She had a passion for teaching children but her true love was educating and loving those children with special needs. She continued her passion in Lufkin when the family moved in 1986. She taught at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal School and went on to Neuhaus Education Center to obtain the Certification of Dyslexic Therapy. She went on to provide Dyslexic Therapy for countless students at St. Cyprian’s, Brookhollow Elementary and LISD for 25 of her 35-year teaching career. When she wasn’t in the classroom she loved to garden, play games and read. She loved to travel and made many trips across the globe, over the years with her family. She was an active member of St. Cyprian’s Church for many years where she served on the Altar Guild and St. Martha’s Guild. She was a Rotarian with the Angelina Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow and volunteered her time to its many community projects. Her everlasting love was to her children and grandchildren. She loved being a grandmother and was “G Momma” to Levi and Kali and “Mimi” to Ashley, Aubrey, Adelyn and Langston. She was a wonderful woman, wife, mother and friend and will be dearly missed by her family, friends and many more.
Survivors include her husband, George “Gig” Langston of Lufkin; son, Gordon Langston and wife Emily of Lumberton; daughter, Sarah Crockard and husband Bradford of Katy; grandchildren, Ashley Ruth Langston, Aubrey Menefee Langston, and Kali Forsythe, all of Lumberton, Levi Forsythe of Lufkin, and Adelyn Cutler Crockard and Langston Bradford Crockard, both of Katy; sister, Sally Stiernberg of Austin; sister-in-law, Sylvia McCall and husband Jim of Paso Robles, California; and two nieces, two nephews, and other relatives.
