Graveside services for Lola Beatrice Carter, 93, of Nacogdoches, a former longtime resident of Hudson, will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at Garden of Memories Memorial Park with J.P. Heath officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Carroway Funeral Home Tuesday morning prior to the services.
Mrs. Carter was born May 30, 1932 in Diboll, Texas to the late Mary (James) and Russell Dykes, and died Thursday, February 12, 2026 at her residence.
She was affectionately known as “Lola B” and “Nanny B” to her grands. Mrs. Carter was a seamstress all her life and loved to crochet and play Bingo. She also sewed lap blankets and quilts and donated them to nursing homes. Mrs. Carter was an official member of the Senior Sewing Club and was a very crafty and creative person. She loved her western novels, word searches, the Houston Astros, and the Dallas Mavericks. She volunteered at the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department and also volunteered as an election official.
Survivors include her children and spouses, David and Shari Sessum of Elkhart, James Sessum of Lufkin, Cynthia Peoples of Nacogdoches, Rickey Sessum of Andrews, and Donna and Mark Oliver of Pollok; stepdaughter, Anita Lavaud of Houston; and special friend, Peggy Lawrence. She loved her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Carter; brother, RL Dykes; sisters, Jessie Howell, Annie Loftin, and Betty Capps; and son-in-law, George Peoples.
Pallbearers will be William Sessum, Quentin Walker, Gage Setner, Tanner Sessum, Jacob Oliver, and Neal Warden.
