Memorial services for Linda Huggins Martin, 82, of Lufkin will be held Friday, October 20, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mrs. Martin was born September 14, 1941 in Wichita Falls, Texas to the late Susan Juanita (Wagner) and Davis Lee “Hank” Huggins, and died Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at The Joseph House in Lufkin.
After graduating from Lufkin High School, class of 1959, and Pineywoods Business School, Linda began her career as a statistical typist for Eppler, Guerin and Turner in Dallas and had a secondary career singing in local Dallas nightclubs. She had a beautiful voice and had been asked to perform many times for the Miss Lufkin Pageant and other events in the area.
When she returned to Lufkin after a few years in Dallas, she was employed for many years at Temple Industries. She took a real estate course in 1973 and brokers course the next year and went on to open Home Realty, where she was very successful until the oil crisis of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.
With her business closed, Linda decided to move back to Dallas where she was an important part of Richard Minkoff Custom Home Builders and Minx Restaurant. She also worked part time for a great many years for Foley’s Department Stores in Dallas - she could sell anything because of her honesty and candor to clients wherever and whatever she was selling.
As things normalized in East Texas, Linda moved back home for the last time where she re-established her real estate career, eventually opening Huggins-Martin Realty and Property Management in 1998 and in which she was active up until the past few months. Linda taught real estate at Angelina College for around 20 years where she shared her experience and insights with many realtors in the area.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Margaret Huggins and Dan and Betty Huggins; niece and husband, Doctors Amy and Jeremy Smith; nephew and wife, Adam and Melissa Huggins; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Maya Smith, Toby Smith, Libby Smith, Bridger Huggins, and Brooks Huggins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
