Funeral services for Leonard Ervin Hunt, 86, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Roger Fancher officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Hunt was born November 16, 1937 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Birdie (Cole) and Sylvester Barber Hunt, and died Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at his residence.
Mr. Hunt served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He retired as Safety Supervisor from Bayer Chemical following 26 years of employment, seldom missing a day of work. He took pride in keeping people safe. He taught Fire School seminars at Texas A&M to show how to put out chemical fires. He was also on the hazmat team and would dispatch across the country. Mr. Hunt was a good provider who loved his family and relished the closeness they all had. He was a member of Lufkin First United Pentecostal Church.
Mr. Hunt grew up fishing and hunting and he loved it. He always fished at Lake Sam Rayburn and would go elk hunting in Colorado. He even taught himself how to do taxidermy. He had cows and loved raising them to sell.
Mr. Hunt had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and family members. He enjoyed going camping with them and sharing his love of the outdoors. He would even take the kids out of school to go hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette (Lowery) Hunt of Lufkin; son, Larry Hunt of Rosarito, Mexico; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl and Todd Montgomery of Lufkin, and Darla and Jim Streater of Humble; granddaughters and spouses, Brandi Hunt, Rachael Hunt, Meghan Hunt, Hillary and Steve Magness, Olivia and Ben Lechmann, Mikaela Montgomery, Serena Montgomery, Shelby Streater, and Kendall Streater; grandson, Nathan Streater; great-grandchildren, Haizley Magness and Wyatt Lechmann; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Athorn Hunt and Robert Hunt; and sister, Dora Mae Brock.
Pallbearers will be Jim Streater, Nathan Streater, Todd Montgomery, Justin Hunt, Jim Stacy, and Chuck Lowery.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home.
