Larry Gracen Byrd

Larry Gracen Byrd, 83, of Lufkin passed away peacefully Saturday, June 14, 2025 in Lufkin, Texas. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Byrd was born February 4, 1942 in Houston, Texas to the late Novella (Pace) and Calvin Byrd.

Larry resided in Lufkin most of his life and graduated from Lufkin High School. He was no stranger to hard work. While working two jobs to put himself through college and law school, he did his undergraduate studies at Stephen F. Austin State University and then graduated in 1967 from The University of Texas School of Law. He practiced law for 57 years. Larry also ventured into real estate in the ‘70’s and developed several communities throughout East Texas. Larry was a Co-founder of Angelina Savings Bank.

Larry met his wife in Australia. They married and moved to Lufkin where they raised their family. He supported his community and was a proud member of the Lions Club, and especially enjoyed driving the train at the zoo. He loved travelling, yachting, and RVing. He was a family man and loved spending time with his children, granddaughter and his beloved three dogs, Roxie, Bella, and Zane.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Byrd of Lufkin; daughter, Michelle McCauley of Lufkin; son, Markus Byrd and wife Chandra of Dallas; granddaughter, Anna McCauley of Lufkin; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Ross Byrd.
