Funeral services for LaMorris Morehead, 82, of Huntington will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Eastview United Pentecostal Church with Reverend David Hunt and Reverend Randall McCoy officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Sims (Rocky Hill) Cemetery.
Mr. Morehead was born March 7, 1935 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Beatrice (Anderson) and Archie Morehead, the eighth of ten children, and passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 at his residence.
Mr. Morehead served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Postal Service in 1979, due to having a major stroke during surgery in Houston, Texas. He then moved to his beloved home place in the Rocky Hill community, where he had resided for the past 40 years. He was elected Justice of the Peace, Pct. 4 Huntington, Texas in 1992 and served four terms. He was a most kind and gentle man, who loved his family and loved helping people. Even though his health had not been good, he was always a very positive person.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Maxine Morehead; son, Morris Morehead and wife Shalisa of Huntington; daughter, Tammy Wallace and husband Dr. James Wallace of Meridan, Mississippi; grandsons, Cory Morehead and wife Chelsi, Colby Morehead, Nate Wallace, Noah Wallace; granddaughters and spouses, Morgan and Josh Wilson, Shalia and Colton Manning, and Shelby Morehead. OH, HOW WE WILL MISS HIS KIND, GENTLE SPIRIT!
He is also survived by his sister, Faye Pollino and husband John, sisters-in-law, Janet, Jackie, Hazel and Dell Morehead, Doris Wells and husband Lee, Jean Bohannon, Linda Bobbitt and husband Roy; brother-in-law, John Banks; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Prentice, Henry, Boots, W.J., Tot, and Verble Morehead; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Phynice and Ollie Fuller and Myrle and Reverend B.H. McCoy.
Pallbearers will be Cory Morehead, Colby Morehead, Nate Wallace, Scott Morehead, Michael Wells, Noah Wallace, and Cliff Boulware.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Wells and Leon Stricklen.
